Acne can cause damage to the skin and unsightly scarring. With the right
Medical Skin Care treatment, this can be reversed. While it is true that
acne most commonly appears during the teenage years, a large percentage
of individuals suffer from adult acne. Studies show that 25 percent of
men and 50 percent of women in their twenties to their fifties still experience
Adult acne can have negative psychological effects, just as adolescent
acne does— perhaps even more so. The stress of having a career or
raising a family is bad enough. Having to deal with an unsightly skin
problem at the same time makes it even worse.
What Causes Adult Acne?
It can be caused by several things, one of which is emotional stress. The
body can react to stress by increasing the secretions of the skin’s
sebaceous glands or by releasing more hormones from the adrenal glands.
Oils from the sebaceous glands can block pores, while a greater amount
of hormones in the body can create an imbalance — both of which
can give rise to acne flare-ups or exacerbate an existing acne condition.
Before & After Acne Treatment
Skin Care and Acne
Proper care of the skin and the use of the correct skin products can help
make a significant difference in the control of acne. Patients should
see a Dermatologist if they cannot achieve full clearing of acne on their
own. Advances in Acne Laser and Skin Care Treatments can give you the
smooth, clear skin you’ve always wanted.
What Is An Acne Cyst
Sometimes a deeper pimple occurs on the skin. Some patients refer to this
as an “underground” pimple or an “acne cyst”.
It is usually deep, red and tender, and it cannot be popped. In addition,
it may take quite a long time to resolve. What occurred is a pore became
blocked with dead skin cells, oil and bacteria, resulting in inflammation
from your body. When this happens, the doctor can inject a dilute cortisone
solution into the nodule. This helps to take away the inflammation, cause
the bump to reduce and resolve, often within a day or two. This procedure
is quick and can be done by any of our doctors.
